The death of the traditional office telephone
The time when there was a desk phone at every workplace is over. In 2020, we massively switched from telephoning over a landline to calling via the internet. This technology is called Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP for short. More and more companies are relying on this technology because of its many benefits: it saves costs, provides more flexibility, and enhances productivity and collaboration within your organization.
What is VoIP?
VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol, which means making phone calls over a computer network such as the internet. This applies to both internal and external calls. Your phone system with VoIP is virtual (software) and is hosted on a server in a data center. A major advantage is that you can make global calls with your business or local number via an app or softphone application. You make calls from IP address to IP address.
Why is VoIP interesting for a business?
- Cost-saving
There are various costs associated with traditional telephony: think of hardware installations and maintenance costs. VoIP, on the other hand, works over the internet, eliminating the need for expensive infrastructure. You choose a telecom provider and pay a fixed monthly fee. Calls between your own branches and employees are free.
- Scalable and flexible
With VoIP, you can easily add or remove phone lines according to your needs, without having to consider additional hardware installations. Your subscription moves with you, whether it's expanding a full package or temporarily increasing phone lines during seasonal periods. Another benefit is that you provide more flexibility to your employees. With VoIP, you can make and receive calls from any location, making remote work very easy, even for call center employees.
- Increased productivity
Boost productivity and collaboration within your company with VoIP. By using handy features like call forwarding and streamlining communication processes, you ensure that your customers always reach someone quickly. It's also possible to integrate Microsoft 365 with your VoIP system, enabling calling with Microsoft Teams. And you also have the option to integrate ERP or CRM packages with the system. This allows you to immediately see which customer is calling before answering.
