Protect yourself NOW against the WannaCry virus!

Last weekend, a dangerous virus named WannaCry emerged. It's a type of ransomware that blocks computer systems until the user pays a certain amount of money. All your files are encrypted, rendering them inaccessible until you pay the hackers approximately $300 (around €275) in bitcoins to unlock your computer. Already more than 75,000 Windows computers worldwide are believed to be infected, with the number continuing to rise. Sixteen hospitals in England alone have been affected, preventing doctors from accessing patient information due to the cyberattack.

What can you do?

1. Take preventive measures and ensure that all Windows security updates are installed on your device. Microsoft released an update in March that prevents infection of your Windows device.

2. Install Ransomfree on your Windows device. This free program blocks 99% of all ransomware, including WannaCry.

3. We advise caution when opening email attachments. This ransomware is spread through infected files (e.g., Word documents) attached to emails. If in doubt, contact our Service Desk before opening these attachments!! Forewarned is forearmed...

4. Take backups of your important files and store them in a cloud or other external location. If you are still infected, you can restore the affected files from your backup.
